History Of Khatu Shyam Ji

Khatu Nagar is a town in the Sikar district of Rajasthan. There is a famous temple of Lord Khatu Shyam ji right here. Being established in Khatu Nagar, Lord Shyam is known as Khatu Shyam. This temple, which is more than 1000 years old, is today a big center of people’s faith.

Everyday thousands of devotees come here for darshan. His devotees also call Khatu Shyam ji by names like Shyam Baba, Three Arrows, Rider of the Blue Horse, Lakhdatar, Hare Ka Sahara, Sheesh Ka Dani, Morvinandan, Khatu Wala Shyam, Khatu Naresh, Shyam Dhani etc. Today we will tell you about the story of Khatu Shyam, Khatu Shyam Avatar, Khatu Shyam Temple etc.

Who Is Khatu Shyam Ji?

The story of Khatu Shyam ji begins from the Mahabharata period. Earlier he was known as Barbarik. He is the son of Ghatotkacha, the son of the mighty mace-wielding Bhima, and Moravi, the daughter of the demon Moor. He was a brave and great warrior since childhood.

Shri Khatu Shyam ji had learned the art of war from his mother Morvi and Lord Shri Krishna. After this, at the behest of Shri Krishna, Nav Durga did severe penance to please the mother and obtained three unfailing arrows. In this way they also became famous by the name of three arrows. At the same time, Agnidev was pleased and provided such a bow, which could give him victory over all the three worlds. In Kalyug, the same Barbarik became famous by the name of Khatu Shyam. The name Shyam was given to Barbarik by Lord Krishna.

Life Story Of Khatu Shyam Ji

To know the history of Shri Khatu Shyam ji, once again we go into the story of Mahabharata. As you read, Barbarik had received three infallible arrows from Maa Durga and a bow from Agnidevta after penance. Here, the war of Mahabharata was going on between Kauravas and Pandavas. Barbarik got information about this.

On this he also expressed his desire to join the war and reached to receive blessings from his mother. During this Barbarik promised his mother to support the losing side. Barbarik rode on his blue horse and went towards Kurukshetra with three arrows and a bow.

When the omnipresent Lord Shri Krishna came to know that Barbarik had come out to join the war of Mahabharata, he planned to stop Barbarik. Because Shri Krishna knew that Barbarik had come out to fight on behalf of the losing side. The defeat of Kauravas is certain in the war of Mahabharata.

In such a situation, if Barbarik would fight on behalf of the Kaurava side, the results would be different. In such a situation, Shri Krishna appeared in front of Barbarik in the guise of a Brahmin and stopped him to know about him. When Barbarik told himself about going to war, Shri Krishna laughed at him that he was going to fight the war of Mahabharata with just three arrows.

On this, Barbarik said that these three arrows are not ordinary arrows. Victory can be obtained in war with just one arrow. On this Shri Krishna challenged him to pierce the leaves of a tree present there. Barbarik accepted the challenge and took out an arrow from his quiver and shot it towards the leaves of the tree.

The arrow pierced all the leaves of the tree in a moment and then started circling around Shri Krishna’s feet, because Shri Krishna had hidden a leaf under his feet. On this, Barbarik asked Shri Krishna to remove his feet. Otherwise, this arrow will pierce his leg as well.

After this Shri Krishna asked Barbarik from which side he would join the war. On this, Barbarik reiterated the promise given to his mother and said to fight on behalf of the weak and losing side. On this, Shri Krishna expressed his desire for barbaric charity.

On this, Barbarik promised him charity and asked him to ask for charity. Shri Krishna dressed as a Brahmin asked Barbarik for the donation of his head. Barbarik donated his head on the Dwadashi of Falgun month. For this reason he was also called Sheesh Dani.

How Did Khatu Become Shyam?

Barbarik, in the form of a Brahmin, requested Shri Krishna to inform about his real form. Because Veer Barbarik understood that no Brahmin would ask for such a donation. On this Shri Krishna came in his real form. And in the Mahabharata war, before the war, he talked about sacrificing the head of a Kshatriya for Bhoomipujan.

On this, Barbarik agreed to donate his head as per his promise. But prayed to see the war of Mahabharata. On which Barbarik’s severed head was decorated on a hill near the battlefield. From where Barbarik saw the entire war of Mahabharata. Pleased with the sacrifice of Barbarik, Krishna blessed him to be worshiped as Shyam in Kalyug. Due to the presence of a temple in Khatu Nagar, he was called Khatu Shyam.

Story Of Barbarik Becoming Khatu Shyam

Lord Krishna was very pleased with this sacrifice of Veer Barbarik and gave him a boon that Barbarik would be known as Shyam in Kali Yuga. After the war, his head was buried in Khatu Nagar, located in Sikar district of present-day Rajasthan state. That is why Shyam Baba is also known as Khatu Shyam.

According to the legend, where Barbarik’s head was buried. Every day a cow used to come there and used to automatically shed the stream of milk from her breasts. After digging on it, the sheesh appeared there, which was handed over to a Brahmin for a few days.

Temple Of Khatu Shyam Ji

Once the king of Khatu Nagar had a dream. In which he was inspired to build the temple and beautify that sheesh in the temple. After that the temple was constructed at that place and the Ekadashi of the month of Kartik was beautified in the Sheesh temple, which is celebrated as the birthday of Baba Shyam.

In the Khatu Shyam temple, there is an influx of devotees only after the head of Barbarik i.e. Shyam Baba was beautified. His devotees call Khatu Shyam ji the support of the losers. Because they believe that Baba Shyam fills happiness in the lives of losers. Every year lakhs of devotees come here to visit Khatu Shyam.
